Twenty-One Essential Basics – Part 1
by Silas on February 13th, 2010
The basic premise of the game is to be handed cards adding up to twenty one. Each competitor is given 2 cards. When a blackjack player is dealt a 9 or lower value card and an Ace they have been given a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace it is referred to as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been dealt all players at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every black jack player is given the opportunity to make 1 of six actions:
Taking another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit" the dealer will deal them another card, if the addition of that card causes the total greater than 21 the black jack player will have lost and that’s the end of the game, if the card makes the total to twenty-one the gambler is the winner and if the total hasn’t yet reached twenty one they’re still in the game.
Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a player is satisfied with the cards they’ll hold. Once this has happened the croupier will disclose his/her hand and the black jack player who has accumulated twenty-one or the closet to 21 will come away with a win.
Doubling Down: A black jack player might request to double down which doubles the bet they have placed. Once you have taken this action you can only receive one more card. The details of doubling down are usually specified by the table or casino rules so before betting make sure you are at ease with the casino game rules. If you are betting at a web betting house this is usually very easy.
Watch for part two.
